Pigeons pose an increasing problem for rooftop solar systems

Last week ABC radio Brisbane explored the growing problem of pigeons harbouring under solar panels for refuge and nesting. Original article: Pooping pigeons prove problematic for properties with solar panels

Queensland tops the list for the highest number of households with solar power. Along with that is the growing problem of pigeons nesting under panels and making a mess of what was to be wise investment.

Smart homeowners invest in solar power to save money on electricity. However if panels are not properly cleaned and protected from pests, solar systems can end up working inefficiently, damaged or pose fire hazard with the accumulation of nesting debris.

ABC radio Brisbane interviewed Ivan Cindric who warned against drilling or screwing mesh onto the solar panels themselves.  “If you screw something into your panels you’ve actually voided the warranty,” he said.

The best option is to use specially designed solar panel clips like MZ30 to easily and securely fix the stainless steel mesh around the solar panel array without marking or screwing into the panel frame.

Pest pigeons that we see in urban areas introduced European species that pose a threat to native wildlife ecosystem. With more and more home owners switching to sustainable energy like solar, these pest pigeons pose a threat to our green homes too.
